After getting a little bit too enthusiastic about the Brilliance BS6 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I decided to do a bit more research to find out what other Chinese hidden gems are out there. And there are actually quite a few cars that have caught my attention.

Kinja'd!!!

Most of them are not available here in western Europe or the States but its still interesting to see where the Chinese auto industry is slowly moving towards to. After a bit of searching I found an article about the upcoming Guangzhou Trumpchi GA8 (never heard of them before) on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which probably is the only proper source for vehicles like this.

And I must say its actually looking rather good. While probably nicely equipped and with modern design, it most likely won't have the best build quality out there and might feel rather cheap compared to contemporary cars. But I definitely would look forward to seeing a car like this being sold here as well, even if its just good enough as a really cheap, used daily beater that you won't have to care about too much. With cars from Hyundai and Kia being way too nice to fill this gap now, I could imagine me getting one for cheap money and enjoy it while it lasts. On the other hand, I might as well !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

What does Oppo think about Chinese made cars? Would you like to see more where you are living?

They'll probably be good eventually if there aren't good ones already (we don't get COMMIE cars here). It's just like Japan or Korea. People shat on Japanese cars for the longest time (some still do), and most people seem to still think that Hyundai and Kia are shit because they know someone who had a Daewoo Lanos once.

Meh, I'd rather buy the Audi over the Fauxdi.

The only Chinese car I am aware of that's for sale in western Europe right now is the MG 6 in the UK. And its actually not that bad if you believe the reviews, even though cheap materials and build quality seem to be the major issues. That didn't stop GM or Chrysler selling cars for decades though. I think the MG 6 GT actually is a very pretty looking car.

Yes, but what if you can get a 5 year old Trumpchi (lol) for 3 grand with somewhat similar options and don't wanna spend 20 grand on the Audi?

I'm pretty sure I saw some Chinese SUVs when I was in Ireland a few years ago.

They did sell a few different cars a couple of years ago but must have noticed quickly that they wouldn't sell. There might still be something available in Italy, but I doubt there's any official dealer network or importers for these cars left.

GAC is part of what is still a relatively small group of Chinese automakers that is really trying to make an honest effort to compete with Western brands on the domestic market with well designed, and reasonably well engineered and screwed together models. If any Chinese car company is going to make it on the global stage, they have a better shot than most. SAIC, BYD, Brilliance, Great Wall, Chery, and of course, Qoros are probably on that short list too.
